Overview
Albania's northern highlands — the Albanian Alps, known locally as Bjeshkët e Nemuna — offer some of Europe's most dramatic and least-visited mountain landscapes. Ancient trails connect isolated villages where traditions have survived for centuries. The Accursed Mountains (Prokletije) form the heart of the Peaks of the Balkans trail, with peaks rising above 2,600 meters and valleys so remote they remain accessible only on foot.
